By 1996 my boss Bruce had coordinated with a computer store named CompUSA to place me as a trainer for two recurring public classes they wanted to offer. Intro to Desktop Computers and the other, Intro to the Internet.
If you have the URL, simply enter it in the location bar and go to that site directly. Why do people enter URLs as searches? The search engines shouldn’t be your window to the whole of the Internet. Be aware of manipulated search results. Your social media timelines should not be allowed to replace your quest for independent sources and truth.
The internet class described a network of connected computers where you access other systems by name and sometimes by their number. I recall this point specifically because as the years have gone on, it always bugged me when I saw someone enter the URL in a search engine search box. Google and the other social sites, they are not the starting point of the Internet. The search box and social media timelines have enabled tech to better manage, or limit, what you see.
Keep your sources broad. Stay aware of bias and projection. Stay well.
